This course offers an in-depth exploration of literary traditions across various periods and genres, including fiction, classical and Renaissance poetry, and American novels. Students will study English drama from the 16th and 17th centuries, gaining insights into theatrical forms and themes during these times. The curriculum further includes studies in criticism and theory, providing tools for literary analysis. Additionally, it covers a broad range of British and American poetry and drama.

Spanning extensive historical periods, the course offers a thorough examination of literature from the long 18th, the long 19th, and the long 20th centuries. This includes an exploration of key literary developments and their socio-cultural contexts. Students will also engage with literature through the lens of world and Indian cinema, enabling exploration of critical theoretical and contextual approaches to film and theatre.Special focus areas include partition writings, which critically analyses partition of India as a major socio-historical phenomenon and assesses its reflection in Literature, and Dalit studies, which explore the literature and cultural expressions of marginalized communities. This course lays a great emphasis on dissertation, which helps the students to develop critical acumen towards research studies and conduct research in the most ethical manner.
