Overview
Jagannath University INTERIOR DESIGN Course aims to explore the amalgam of architecture, space planning, display, merchandising, landscaping and product designing. Our Endeavour is to inculcate in students the sound spatial and technical design sense and also nurturing the sense of intricate detailing of drawings, knowledge of building materials and lighting and a keen aesthetic, functional and ethical sensitivity to interior and exterior environments.
Interior designing is a creative, imaginative and artistic profession. Its about combining knowledge with aesthetic vision. Interior designers work with clients and other design professional to develop solutions that are professional safe, functionally attractive and meet the spatial needs.
Jagannath University offers a practical, interactive learning methodology with an emphasis on mentoring by faculty and industry experts. Studio and interior styling and projects are assigned throughout the year and practical internships offered to graduates of the Interior Design Degree. This degree aims at creating efficient professionals for the industry.
Course Objectives
- To give expression to your creative ideas.
- To create a strong foundation in the basic principles and elements of design, drawing and color in order to develop a non-verbal design language, visual logic, and fluency of expression.
- To encourage creative expression and original work within a structured curriculum that balances theory and practice, vision and planning, creativity and logic, art and technology.
- To develop skills in applying design principles in a wide variety of residential and non-residential projects; requiring knowledge of space planning, materials, finishes, textiles, lighting, surfaces, structures and codes .
- To stress the relationship of environment to behaviour and the importance of design sensitivity to human needs, integrating such issues as universal design, barrier-free accessibility, and diverse populations with design elements in design work-goals.
- To provide extensive training in computer skills for computer-aided design (CAD) and business.
- To increase awareness of pressing social and environmental concerns, and address how design can help meet the needs of those with limited financial resources through community service.
- To achieve progress from inception to completion of projects.
- To develop an understanding of key materials and upcoming products used in construction.
- To gain understanding of implications of being a professional interior designer.
- To develop an understanding of factors governing the selection of interior domestic furniture and fittings.
- To learn about vaastu and how to execute design with elements of vaastu.
- To learn about building services such as lifts, escalators, ventilation, plumbing services.
- To develop a sense of design to enter into any big professional body.

- Inputs on areas like Design Methods and Material, Providing Services, History and Technical theory.
- Focus on creating 2D and 3D virtual drawing by working on AutoCAD.
- Visits to Exhibitions like Interior- Exterior Expo, Society Interiors, and Malls.
- Market Surveys for various elements of materials - Timber, Marble, Paints, Hardware etc.
- Six to eight weeks professional training by the Internship programs conducted.
